Marbles Roll
An organised downhill ride connecting Penteli’s marble heritage, mountain landscape and public space.
An idea rooted in the place
Conceived by Lefteris Maniadakis, Marbles Roll connected the ancient marble quarry, part of the historic Lithagogia route and the stairs leading into Nea Penteli square. Surf Salad took responsibility for the concept, route, operational planning, coordination, safety planning and communication.
The Municipality of Penteli provided funding, institutional support, spaces and personnel. The event brought together approximately 40 riders, a 20-person organising team and an additional 50 volunteers.
Building the route on the ground
Route design and preparation were the central challenge. Volunteers worked for a week to clear overgrown, inaccessible sections. Jump and wall-ride elements were built, while an abandoned tunnel was cleaned and lit for inclusion in the route.
Participation and a basis for the future
Participants and spectators travelled from other areas. The organising team reported highly positive feedback. The first edition left a route, working partnerships and an organisational plan that can support future events.
